After crashing with Charles Leclerc early in Sunday’s Sao Paulo Grand Prix and subsequently quitting with a “electrical” problem, Lando Norris was left to reflect on a “disappointing” day.
Following the restart under the Safety Car after Daniel Ricciardo and Kevin Magnussen crashed out on Lap 1, Norris passed Leclerc to go up to sixth, but the two drivers collided at Turn 6 and sent Leclerc into the wall.

Despite the fact that they were both allowed to continue, Norris was given a five-second time penalty for his actions. After the race, he explained what happened from his perspective and made it obvious that he did not hold himself completely responsible for the crash.
He attempted to circumvent me, and we made light touch. Norris remarked, “Of course I didn’t want any interaction; I like a contact-free contest. “But I’m not here to let everyone through, and I’m not simply going to let everyone through. Whenever feasible, I maintained my position.
Perhaps both he and I could have provided an extra five centimeters if we had tried. It’s [the first lap after the restart], and he attempted to squeeze me on the entrance. Perhaps he could have anticipated more from me, given that I couldn’t maintain the inside line the whole time. But I gave it my all.

He elaborated, saying, “At the end of the day, I think it was a bit of a racing incident.” It’s really bad for him that he came out on the losing end of this. That’s the opposite of what I wanted to happen. In any case, it wasn’t the issue. To be fair, we were simply too sluggish in general, and that was just how life was. We didn’t even make it to the finish line since the automobile was so bad today.
Norris stated, “I want to think there was a little bit of harm after what happened. Perhaps I’m totally incorrect and making this all up. It seemed slightly off center after the event, but I’m sure it was just something minor in the steering.
However, I don’t believe we slowed down too much because of that. Perhaps a tenth every lap, but we needed perhaps half a second per lap, so that’s a tragedy.”
Later in the race, when in 12th place, Norris pulled off the course and radioed his crew, “I’ve lost power.” The British man explained what had gone wrong afterward, saying that even if he had completed the race, he wouldn’t have placed in the top ten.
Norris said, “I believe an electrical problem.” A top-ten result was out of the question for us. Our sluggishness may be attributed only to our slow pace. Perhaps we would have placed tenth. Obviously, the race is still ongoing. A pity, to be sure.

Alpine, which scored 14 points at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, is in prime position to overtake McLaren for fourth place in the constructors’ standings in next weekend’s Abu Dhabi finale, with a 19-point lead over McLaren.
